Verses 42–51 · Contemplation (Nididhyasana)
Verse 51 — Into the Silence That Is Awareness
The final silence is pure awareness — freedom now.
Let the m-sound in Aum — representing the prajna-jiva, the very cause of both waker and dreamer — be merged into the supreme Self, the mass of Consciousness. Come to live this knowledge: "I am the supreme substratum of the universe, Brahman — ever free, untouched by the filth of Maya, unconditioned by the equipments. This very Eye of Wisdom am I." [Verse 51]
This verse completes the Om-meditation (and the whole nididhyasana section) by resolving the last layer — the causal — into pure consciousness, and then reveals what the resulting silence actually is.
The final resolution
When the M sound ends, even the causal universe (Ishvara / Prajna) is "swallowed," and what remains is Turiya — pure consciousness, beyond name, form, and word.

To reach non-duality, jiva, jagat, and Ishvara are all resolved. The whole practice is like a great "meal" (bhojana) in which the three pairs of experience are consumed, until only the one who was experiencing — pure awareness — remains.
The single most important insight: silence is awareness
This is the point everything has been leading to, so hold it carefully:
Key idea. When Om ends, the mind is silent, seemingly "blank." But blankness is known — and whatever is known is illumined by consciousness. So this is not the absence of everything; it is the presence of pure awareness with nothing else in it.
The desk analogy makes it unmistakable:
| Clear everything off a desk | Quiet every thought from the mind |
|---|---|
| You see "nothing" left | The mind is "blank" |
| But you see the nothing — because light pervades the desk | But you know the blankness — because consciousness pervades the mind |
| In pitch dark, you couldn't even report "nothing" | Without awareness, blankness couldn't be known |
So capital-S Silence = silence pervaded by consciousness. Turn your attention to that silent awareness. And why can't you see this awareness? Because it is not an object — it is you, the subject, the seer itself.
Chant Om again and name-and-form arises; let it fade and the Silence-Awareness continues — the constant in which the whole universe rises and dissolves. "In me alone everything is born, exists, and dissolves; I am that non-dual Brahman."
Freedom is present-tense
The verse ends by asking you to live the conclusion — and it is radical:
| The body | I |
|---|---|
| Mithya — its presence or absence makes no difference to me | Satyam — like a screen ever untouched by the film |
| I have no real connection to the three bodies | Ever-pure, unconditioned |
"I am ever-free (sada vimukta). I am the Eye of Wisdom itself." Because the world is non-substantial, it can no more affect me than a dream can affect the waker. Living this while still embodied is jivanmukti — and in truth "I am free of the body even now." Putting an end to the very expectation of liberation is the last exercise in liberation. With Verse 51, the practice of nididhyasana is complete. Verses 52–57 describe its fruit: the life of a liberated person.
